A Dahlia

dahlia

Summer colour fades away.
Golden, brown, russet, leaves fall.
Brightening the shorter days,
Dahlia dazzles, last of all.

A heavy head of sunshine,
concentric circles cluster,
form geometric design,
radiating golden lustre.

Those perfect petals’ taper
prove divine creative art,
enveloping protector
of precious central heart.

Symbol of Autumn glory
Dahlia’s glow by dewy lawn.
Chiller nights and hedges hoary
It shines through the misty dawn.
